We are looking for a skilled Cable Technician to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia. This Contract-to-permanent position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including fiber optic installation and troubleshooting. Responsibilities:
• Prepare and splice various types of fiber optic cables, including loose tube and ribbon configurations.
• Conduct fiber optic system testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
• Install rack mounts and fiber optic enclosures in alignment with customer specifications.
• Terminate fiber cables accurately and efficiently.
• Perform aerial line work using a bucket truck while adhering to safety and traffic regulations.
• Operate specialized fiber equipment such as fusion splicers, fiber light identifiers, and power meters.
• Read and interpret fiber maps, prints, and splice logs to execute precise installations.
• Audit fiber optic systems and create detailed as-built documentation.
• Balance amplifiers and certify nodes to maintain system reliability.
• Core and splice coaxial cables as required.• Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber splicing and installation.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding prints and design layouts.
• Ability to operate bucket trucks, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic networks and related equipment.
• Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on varied surfaces for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Availability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and flexible hours, including nights and on-call rotations.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
