About the Position

  • The Center for Foreign Affairs & Defense Policy (CFADP) is seeking a dedicated and visionary individual to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors . This individual will play a key leadership role in advancing CFADP's mission by providing strategic oversight, institutional guidance, and mission-aligned governance. The estimated time commitment for this position is approximately 8 hours per month . While day-to-day operations are managed by CFADP's President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Board Chair works in close partnership with the CEO to support the organization's strategic direction and ensure effective governance. Active and thoughtful engagement in this partnership is essential and expected.
  • The Board of Directors meets quarterly, with committee meetings scheduled in coordination with full board sessions. Additional or special meetings may be convened at the discretion of the Board Chair.
  • The Board Chair position is a volunteer role . While it is unpaid, per organizational policy , CFADP will reimburse reasonable expenses incurred in fulfilling board duties, such as travel, accommodations, and other necessary costs.

Key Responsibilities of the Board Chair

  • Preside over all meetings of the Board of Directors, including any special or emergency sessions.
  • Supporting and advising the President & CEO in securing grants and philanthropic funding, including assisting with fundraising strategy, donor engagement,
  • Establish strategic goals and key organizational objectives, and ensure progress toward their successful implementation.
  • Promote active participation among board members, encouraging involvement in committees and organizational initiatives.
  • Hold regular monthly meetings with the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to address key issues, provide guidance, and support executive leadership.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in a relevant field such as International Affairs, Public Policy, Political Science, or National Security.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant writing, fundraising strategies, and donor engagement. Prior success in securing and managing grants or philanthropic funding is highly desirable.
  • Extensive professional experience with a proven track record of executive leadership—preferably in government, International relations, U.S. Foreign Polciy, Defence Policy, or National Security.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and strategic planning abilities; prior experience in project or organizational management is highly desirable.
