Purpose of Position:

Working collaboratively with other functional leaders, provides technical, scientific and administrative direction and oversight.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews Radiation Therapy programs, make recommendations to Physician teams and Leadership colleagues that would expand or improve the quality of care.
  • Review appropriate written policies/procedures on an ongoing basis and ensures appropriate documentation of revisions.
  • Designs, implements and oversees a technical quality assurance program in Radiation Therapy. Assures these programs are in general agreement with the recommendations of appropriate bodies (e.g. ACR, AAPM).
  • Ensure smooth operation of CT simulation and radiation treatment, through adherence to established policies and procedures, and resolving inter/intra departmental conflicts. Take steps to improve and implement streamlined work processes, working with leadership and providers to effect positive change.
  • Develops and/or assists with all necessary therapist duties involving machinery, equipment, supplies, etc. Monitors and manages the use of and inventory of supplies.
  • Perform the duties of radiation therapist as needed in order to maintain a high-quality of care environment; assist with GammaKnife procedures.
  • Ensures correct use of charge codes, reviews and amends billing for accuracy.
  • Serve as mentor and coach to others. Help troubleshoot for issues with equipment, patient set-up or treatment, etc. Serve as active and collaborative participant in ROILS, Safety Committee Meetings, Radiation Safety Meetings, Weekly Chart Rounds-Anchorage, Planning Conference.
  • Works collaboratively with management and their teams to meet patient needs and assure high quality of service.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, mentorship and guidance to direct reports.
  • Direct, supervise and evaluate work activities of direct reports. Identify, articulate and monitor progress against standards of behavior and performance. Address any personnel issues to promote a productive and supportive work environment.
  • Ensure that direct reports are properly trained and have the tools necessary to perform the work.
  • Encourage ongoing learning; create and promote educational opportunities whenever possible.
  • Propose recruitment, hiring, and firing decisions to Directors.
  • Coordinate staff schedules, leave, etc.; this would include forecasting and making necessary adjustments. Approve timecards.
  • Oversee, train and evaluate radiation therapy students as preceptor.

Education, Certification and Licensure:

  • Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy technology program.
  • ARRT certification required.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Compliance with annual mandatory education.
  • Compliance with annual immunization requirements.

Experience:

  • No less than seven years of experience actively practicing as a Radiation Therapist.

Technical Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge in up-to-date radiation therapy techniques and treatments such as IMRT, IGRT, SGRT, SRS, SBRT, EBRT, HDR and CT simulation.
  • Knowledge in principles, practices and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment.
  • Ability to effectively apply scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Knowledge in up-to-date radiation therapy techniques and treatments.
  • Knowledge in principles, practices, and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiation therapy equipment.
  • Possess a working knowledge of radiation safety utilizing the ALARA philosophy.
  • Critical Thinking skills; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Complex problem-solving skills, identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens.
  • Frequent travel between centers and within the city is required.
  • Frequent contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • May be exposed to radiation.
  • May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Physical Requirements:
