Job Description

Job Summary Performs essential tasks to intake, preserve, examine, and analyze physical evidence related to criminal or internal investigations. The member is also responsible for evaluating analytical methods from a wide variety of digital media and procedures, maintaining section equipment and logbooks, such as excel or database management systems, and conducting various quality control checks. Additionally, the designee will maintain the laboratory, including cleaning work areas and equipment, and update forensic lab software and hardware to ensure accuracy, aligning with industry standards to maintain the integrity of evidence and the chain of custody. The designee will prepare detailed and accurate reports that are technically accurate and supported by case record information. This position supports law enforcement by recovering forensically sound data in a legally defensible manner. A minimum of 65 percent of time will perform duties that involve the collection, examination, preservation, documentation, preparation, or analysis of human tissues or fluids or physical evidence having potential biological, chemical or radiological hazard or contamination or use chemicals, processes, or materials that may have carcinogenic or health-damaging properties in the analysis of such evidence.

EOE/ADA

Education and Experience High School Equivalent (Diploma/General Equivalency Diploma) required. AA/BA Degree from an accredited college preferred. A strong working knowledge of digital forensic principles in file systems (APFS, NTFS, FAT, exFAT), and data recovery techniques, and knowledge of laws is preferred. Must always maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. An unescorted CJIS clearance, as authorized by FDLE, is required.
