Job Description

Under the supervision of the teacher, One-to-One Paraprofessional will provide direct services to individual students and participate in daily instruction and activities within the school, program, and class to which the student is assigned. The duties of a One-to-One Paraprofessional are tailored to meet the specific needs of the student. Students requiring a One-to-One Paraprofessional may have disabilities or diagnoses including pervasive developmental disorder, autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Williams' Syndrome, physical or multiple handicaps, blindness, deafness, Tourettes' Syndrome, OCD, PTSD, psychiatric disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, conduct disorder, genetic disorders, or brain injury. They may also speak languages other than English. Reports To: Principal/Head of Schools/School-based Special Education Administrator Responsibilities Assist with instruction in small groups, toileting, diapering, lifting, transfers, personal hygiene, and support the school nurse with tube feedings, scribing, note-taking, communication systems (e.g., ASL, SEE 2, Picture Exchange System, communication boards), Braille, and behavioral interventions including ABA, behavior management, redirection, de-escalation, and physical restraint. In certain cases, a gender-specific assignment may be required due to the nature of the work or the student's history, to ensure safety and comfort for both parties. Support students across various district schools, including those in advanced coursework, providing necessary assistance. Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement lesson plans and activities. Maintain open communication with parents and staff. Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration, especially during student absences. Qualifications - Required High School Diploma or GED. Forty-eight (48) college credit hours or an Associate's Degree, or passing scores on the ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency. Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities. Ability to work effectively with parents, guardians, administrators, teachers, and students. Experience in assisting with team instruction. Flexibility to meet the needs of students and families. Training in ABA. Legal authorization to work in the United States. Qualifications - Preferred Fluency in one of BPS's official languages (Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali) is highly valued, as linguistic diversity enriches the school community. Work hours vary according to school schedules, including possible extended hours under the "Schedule A" ELT agreement.
