Supervising Professional Engineer, Civil/Structural Engineer
Bureau of District Projects and Construction
The St. Johns River Water Management District is an environmental agency whose work is focused on ensuring a long-term supply of drinking water, and to protect and restore the health of water bodies in the District's 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida. The Bureau of District Projects and Construction is responsible for the design and implementation of water resource projects that meet the mission of the District. Job Summary: This is supervisory professional engineering work performing civil/structural engineering design work for District water resource projects.
Job duties include:
  • Supervise the design section staff including other licensed professional engineers. Develops workplans, monitors progress of assigned projects and provides assistance in moving projects towards completion. Performs technical review of designs prepared by staff and revises designs as warranted to meet standards.
  • Prepares detailed design, including plans and specifications for District projects. Functions as the engineer of record for complex engineering design projects. Reviews and offers comments on design documents, including plans and specifications received by the District from external entities and District consulting engineers. Provides technical engineering information to other agencies and consultants on the design of District projects. Communicates with District staff and external stakeholders.
  • General administration and participation in project planning and budgeting. May also include a minor amount of contract administration duties such as developing scopes of work, evaluating proposals and review of invoices. Evaluates need for design and related work. Develops projects in conjunction with the other work units in accordance with the project delivery process.
Skilled In:
Technical writing and other forms of written and verbal communication and presentation; supervision and associated skills needed to effectively lead the section; planning, developing and implementing scopes of work for complex engineering processes; applying analytical problem solving skills and exercising professional judgment to solve technical problems and carry out assignments; reviewing work products for adequacy of meeting objectives, application of sound professional judgment and adherence to District and State standards; familiarity with the use of specialized computer engineering applications for civil, structural or geotechnical engineering disciplines such as STAAD, or Geoslope is desired, but not required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Registration as a Professional Engineer and one year of subsequent engineering experience. If not licensed in the state of Florida, the ability to obtain licensure in Florida within one year of employment. Experience in structural engineering is desired but not required. Experience must include one year of leading a project team, coordinating activities of a workgroup, or serving as a team lead.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Mostly office environment, sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer to produce work products with some field visits as required. Field visits would require enduring outdoor environments in uncomfortable temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations.
License:
Professional Engineer license
Valid State of Florida Driver's License.
Additional Details :
Starting Salary Range: $99,964 - $120,619
Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
