Position Description

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver reports to the Association Board of Directors and has executive leadership responsibility for the operational and strategic direction of the Y, by leading the organization in achieving the mission through fiscal management, financial development, community relations, staffing, and operations.

This position requires an inspiring leader who is a vision-caster with impeccable character, a well-rounded world view, proven empathetic and servant leadership of top performing people, and self-confidence with humility. The CEO must create a vision to put the mission into a long-term view. The successful candidate will have a strong passion for the Y and will create a culture that encourages growth and innovation.

The CEO must be an excellent communicator with a solid foundation in collaborations and fundraising. The candidate must be focused on relationship building and understanding the unique nuances and needs of the diverse communities we serve. Additionally, the CEO is responsible for constant identification of financial and operational threats to ensure responsible stewardship of the Y’s financial portfolio, including enterprise risk management.

CEO QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, human services, or related area; related graduate degree preferred.
  2. Proven track record of ten or more years of experience in a senior leadership role for a high-performing, mission-driven, complex organization with experience in the areas of fiscal management, strategic plan development, philanthropic development, and multi-site operations.
  3. Demonstrated experience in community relations, financial development, financial management, and board and volunteer development.
  4. Demonstrated insight and skill to effectively lead a voluntary, not-for-profit organization within a complex internal and external environment.
  5. Successful fundraising experience in annual campaigns, capital efforts, endowments, and grants.
  6. Transformational leadership experience leading the development of an organization’s strategic plan with a clear vision of serving “all” across a diverse community with a track record of ensuring the voices in the decision-making room reflect the individuals in the communities we serve.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of community resources and the ability to engage and partner these resources with the YMCA to meet strategic objectives.
  8. Demonstrated successful experience in developing effective strategic partnerships and relationships to further the impact of an organization.
  9. Effective leadership skills in board governance and serving as an integral partner with volunteers.
  10. YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Candidates not already in possession of this certification will have up to three years to obtain via YMCA of the USA).
